A new and improved range of Euro V compliant engines blend clean performance with excellent fuel economy and ultra-low emissions. The latest Hyundai i10 introduces the all-new 1.0-litre 'Kappa' engine, which replaces the old 1.1-litre 'Epsilon' unit. This cutting-edge three-cylinder engine achieves a remarkable 67.3mpg combined: the sort of cheap-to-run credentials that will resonate with customers as the cost of motoring continues to rise.
To make the most of this efficient new 1.0-litre engine, Hyundai has introduced an all-new model - the i10 Blue. This special 'eco' edition of the i10 emits an astonishingly low 99g/km CO2, so it gains exemption from VED and the London Congestion Charge. It is currently the only sub-£10k five-seater car on the market to achieve this, and the first of a family of Blue models that will underscore Hyundai's commitment to environmental technology.
Equipment specification across the Hyundai i10 range remains impressive, with usually optional features, such as air conditioning and the addition of an iPod plug-in, standard fit on all new i10s. As part of a class-leading equipment list, customers will also find four airbags, a six-speaker stereo, 14-inch wheels, electric windows and central locking all as standard on all models.
In ascending order, the trim levels are Blue, Classic, Active (which replaces Comfort for the 2011 model), and Style. Each trim level offers features and technology unheard of on a car at this price point, for example smart 14-inch alloy wheels and heated front seats on the Style trim. Choosing the right i10 is simple for UK customers too, with straightforward price gaps between trim packages and no hidden extras.
And, importantly, the Hyundai i10 still has the longest wheelbase in the class, meaning exceptional interior space - it's a full five-seater with room for luggage.
That long wheelbase also gives the ride and handling characteristics of a far larger car, meaning the i10 needn't just be confined to the city limits. Combined with a modern front and rear suspension design, electric power steering and all-round disc brakes, the i10's specification could embarrass some cars in the class above.
And of course all i10s come with Hyundai's world-beating five-year unlimited mileage warranty for total peace of mind. This has been extended for the new 2011 model to include Five Year Triple Care, which includes five years' roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks. It's an offer that is yet to be matched by any of Hyundai's rivals.
All in all it means that buyers who want a small car with small bills needn't put up with big compromises.

Styling - Hyundai's design language continues to evolve
The Hyundai i10 may represent the entry-point to the Hyundai range, but it still has to look great. Hyundai has worked tirelessly to create a family of contemporary, modern and good-looking cars - a process that started with the groundbreaking i30, and the original i10.
The new i10 is no exception. It benefits from a series of cosmetic changes that bring a fresher, dynamic look. All of these alterations have been made to bring the i10 in line with Hyundai's evolving 'fluidic sculpture' design language. The new Hyundai i10's redesigned radiator grille, more angular headlights and new front air intakes are key among the changes. They combine to create a more hexagonal frontal form, which will be a signature feature on all Hyundai models going forward. A reshaped lower bumper and angular front fog light recesses complete the new front end.
The design upgrades continue on the sides and rear of the car, with new style wheels and redesigned rear lamps and bumper completing the new i10's contemporary and streetwise look.
Seven colour schemes are now available, including two fresh and distinctive new colour options for 2011: Ice Silver and Crystal White.

Powertrains - new, ultra-modern Euro V petrol engines
An all-new version of Hyundai's 'Kappa' engine is one of the most exciting additions to the Hyundai i10 range in 2011, and will be available in the i10 Blue from launch.
What's most appealing about the new engine is its excellent fuel consumption figure of 67.3mpg combined. This compares favourably against the old entry-level Hyundai i10's 58.9mpg, and is beyond the capabilities of all other rivals at a comparable price point.
The new engine's CO2 emissions are astonishingly low, at just 99g/km. That puts the i10 Blue in VED Band A, which under current regulations means a free tax disc, as well as exemption from London's Congestion Charge scheme. All of this makes the Hyundai i10 Blue one of the cheapest cars to buy and run on sale today.
Yet despite its smaller capacity and frugal nature, the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder 'Kappa' engine offers a useful 68bhp - enough to reduce the i10 Blue's 0-62mph time by a whole second compared with the outgoing 1.1-litre. And given a top speed of 93mph, even the lowest-powered i10 won't feel strained keeping up with faster traffic at motorway speeds.

Upgraded 1.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine
For those who require a little more flexibility and performance, but still want excellent fuel economy, Hyundai's 1.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is available with the option of a Classic, Active or Style trim. This unit, also a 'Kappa', was introduced on the previous i10 but has been significantly upgraded for the 2011 model.
Power has been increased to a very reasonable 85bhp (10bhp more than the old model) offering more performance and a truly nippy 0-62mph sprint of 12.3 seconds. The 1.25-litre Hyundai i10's top speed has also been increased to 105mph, making it more than comfortable at motorway or fast A-road speeds. Yet fuel efficiency and emissions are still extremely competitive, with manual versions of the 1.25-litre offering a remarkable 61.4mpg and emitting just 108g/km CO2.
Both engines in the i10 line-up further progress Hyundai's ambition of becoming the world's automotive leader in eco-friendly technologies. Company car drivers will also discover that they are only liable for 10% benefit-in-kind liability for the 2010/2011 tax year, meaning they could pay less than £13 a month to the Inland Revenue for having the car. For everyone else, with road tax and fuel prices rising in the UK, the i10 makes good financial sense whichever model you choose.

Interior enhancements
A more upmarket look and feel has been brought to the Hyundai i10's cabin with the new 2011 upgrades. It now offers an ambience comparable with cars from the class above, rather than a great value city car. In fact, the new i10's interior adopts cutting-edge features and design flourishes pioneered on other models further up the i-range.
A new instrument cluster offers striking blue illumination that gives the dials ultimate clarity. As part of these changes, an 'eco shift' indicator has been incorporated to advise drivers of the most efficient moment to change gear, meaning better fuel consumption and lower emissions. This blue illumination is carried over to all the dashboard screens, bathing the interior in a clean and clear ambient light during night driving.
Further upmarket touches include chrome-finished door handles and a chrome-finished gear knob, along with an optional leather steering wheel and handbrake, which help enhance the tactile appeal of the cabin. The standard seat trim's material and colour options have been upgraded with higher-end textiles and materials and a more subtle design. And, to stop the kids spilling their drink on this plusher cabin, there's now a useful rear cupholder for backseat passengers.

Specification and equipment
Even as recently as a decade ago, the standard equipment levels of the Hyundai i10 would be seen as truly generous on a large family car. Air conditioning, electric windows, 13-inch wheels, six-speaker stereo and four airbags would have been considered a strong package in a car costing £16,000. Hyundai is able to bring buyers all this in a car costing half this amount.
The fitment of air conditioning as standard across the range is a real highlight of the i10. It is increasingly seen as essential, not just to help you keep your cool in summer, but also to keep the windows free of mist in winter.
The company hasn't cut back in other areas either. There are four airbags, five seats, ISOFIX mountings, electric windows, colour coded bumpers, central locking, an integrated radio with MP3-compatiable CD player and that all-important USB and iPod plug-in as standard across the range.
This level of equipment is standard on the entry-level Classic trim, but for those who desire even more there are two further steps up the range.
The all-new Active trim is available with a manual or automatic gearbox and gains 14-inch alloy wheels, rear electric windows, front fog lights, a height adjustable driver's seat, power outlet, electric door mirrors, remote central locking and colour coding on the exterior mirrors and door handles.
At the top of the range, the Style now adds new chrome fascia door inserts, chrome interior door handles, a leather steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake, a rear roof spoiler and even heated front seats and an electric sunroof.
Each trim level has a simple 'step-up' to the next to make the choice straightforward for customers. Prices start from £8,195 for the entry-level Classic. The next step Active trim costs £600 extra. From there Style is a further £550 from Active.
All trim levels also have Hyundai's Five Year Triple Care package, which offers an unlimited mileage warranty, roadside assistance and free health checks as standard. That alone would cost hundreds of pounds if added to the purchase price of rivals.

The new i10 Blue
Brand new to the 2011 model range is the Hyundai i10 Blue - the most fuel-efficient car Hyundai has ever produced.
This is Hyundai's first European production model to produce a sub-100g/km CO2 emissions figure. In fact, no other five-seat car in the sub-£10,000 price bracket achieves such impressive fuel economy or CO2 figures.
The Hyundai i10 Blue produces just 99g/km CO2 thanks to the introduction of the new 1.0-litre 'Kappa' engine and the addition of Hyundai's Blue Drive technology.
Blue Drive adds extra features to the standard Classic specification that are specifically designed to enhance fuel economy.
This includes ISG (Intelligent Stop & Go) - a system that automatically kills and re-engages the engine when the car is idling to save fuel - low-rolling resistance tyres, an alternator management system, and an 'eco shift' indicator to help the driver use the car as efficiently as possible.
A special 'Blue Drive' badge is fitted to mark the car out as one of Hyundai's most efficient, environmentally friendly models. This will appear on other Hyundais in the near future. Unlike rival models that are designed to maximise fuel economy, heavy but still important items such as the spare wheel have not been sacrificed from the i10 Blue in the pursuit of low emissions.
Hyundai intends to be a global leader in environmental technologies, and the Hyundai i10 Blue, as part of the Blue Drive initiative, will contribute significantly to a reduction in the company's European average emissions figure.

Hyundai looks set to transform the way its brand has traditionally been viewed in Europe through the launch of the dynamic all-new Hyundai i40, unveiled on the global stage for the first time at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
Designed and engineered at the company's European R&D headquarters in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the D-segment i40 will move Hyundai towards a 'modern premium' positioning on the continent, providing consumers with high-end features and vehicle quality at accessible prices.
The 4.7-metre long Hyundai i40 will first go on sale in wagon form, supported by Hyundai's industry-best, fully transparent Five Year Triple Care assurance. This package attracted European consumers to the brand in 2010 through its combination of a five-year unlimited warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks.

'New Thinking. New Posiibilities.'
"The all-new i40 perfectly captures the spirit of Hyundai's new brand slogan 'New Thinking. New Possibilities.'" said Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe. "The i40 is a sign of how far Hyundai has come in recent years, and truly embodies what we mean when we talk about being a 'modern premium' brand.
"It could be argued that i40 is our most significant new car for several years. We're extremely excited about bringing it to market, and we think it will be a hit in Europe's notoriously competitive D-segment. By launching the car in wagon form first, a body style responsible for over 50% of sales in this segment, we're looking to make an immediate impression with European motorists," Rushforth added.
Hyundai is expecting the European D-segment to grow by 12.6% over the next five years, with industry experts forecasting total sales volumes of 890.000 units across the continent by 2016. With a bold sales target of 60.000 units for the Hyundai i40's first full year of sales in 2012, Hyundai is looking to challenge the Toyota Avensis for a top-five place in the overall D-segment sales chart.

Design Inspiration
The original inspiration for the Hyundai i40 can be traced back to the Genus concept car. Genus represented Hyundai's vision in Europe for a unique alternative within the D-segment, combining practicality with emotional design. Genus helped to forge a new identity for the company, with the debut of the hexagonal grill, a feature which has since become Hyundai's brand face in Europe.
"We developed the Genus concept and matured it into the i40, our vision of a truly unique European car," said Thomas Buerkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai's European Technical Center.
"The design represents an evolution of Hyundai's unique form language, 'fluidic sculpture', creating a sleek, elegant wagon with uncompromised comfort and load capacity. While the exterior of Hyundai i40 stands out for its fluidic form and distinctive graphic elements, the interior design focuses on the sculptural and ergonomically optimized integration of its functions," concluded Buerkle.
The sporty design of the i40 does not impact negatively on levels of interior comfort. The wheelbase is 2.77 metres and the car delivers best-in-class dimensions for front head (1025mm), shoulder (1455mm), and leg (1170mm) room. This impressive roominess promises to give all occupants spending long periods of the time in Hyundai i40 the most comfortable D-segment ride available.
Cargo capacity in the i40 more than holds its own among competitors in the class, with figures ranging from 553 litres with the rear seats occupied up to 1719 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Powertrains
The all-new Hyundai i40 will be available with a choice of four Euro V-compliant engines: two petrol and two diesel. These units cover a power spread of 115 ps to 177 ps, with torque delivery extended across a wide engine-speed range, making the i40 an enjoyable car to drive around town or on the motorway. Manual and automatic transmissions will also be offered.
In a segment where diesel models represent over 75% of total sales, Hyundai is anticipating that the U-II 1.7-litre diesel unit developing 136 ps will be the most popular engine among both private and fleet buyers.
Hyundai's all new four-cylinder 2-litre GDI engine, called 'Nu', makes its debut in the Hyundai i40, promising deliver higher torque (for enhanced driveability), improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, plus undiminished durability and excellent NVH characteristics - similar to the multi-point fuel injected engine.
Equipped with GDI (gasoline direct injection) this 1,999 cc unit generates 177 ps and 213 Nm of torque which ensures that the i40 boasts best-in-class performance and fuel economy. An Hyundai i40 with this engine and a six-speed manual gearbox will accelerate to 130 kph (81 mph) in just 15.7 seconds, record fuel economy figures of 6.7 l/100 km (combined cycle) and achieve a CO2 rating of just 156 g/km.
Overall, Hyundai is expecting a 65/35% spread between diesel and gasoline-powered i40 sales.

Eco credentials
In terms of environmental performance, the all-new Hyundai i40 will feature the latest technologies developed under Hyundai's Blue Drive™ eco-program, including Integrated Stop & Go (ISG), low rolling-resistance tyres and an alternator management system (AMS).
When combined with the U-II 1.7-litre diesel engine developing 115 ps, the inclusion of these Blue Drive features means that CO2 emissions and fuel economy register at a staggeringly low 113 g/km and 4.3 l/100km, respectively, making the i40 the most environmentally-friendly model in its segment.
Hyundai has continuously highlighted its desire to lead the way along the road to long-term environmental sustainability for the auto industry, and Hyundai i40 furthers the company's commitment to delivering models with class-leading eco-performance.

Reduced NVH
A new acoustic package was developed for Hyundai's diesel powered i40. NVH performance, especially the exterior drive-by noise, is dramatically improved by using experimental methods such as Reciprocal Holography (to visualize noise reduction levels at certain frequency) and ADNA (Advanced Diagnostic Network Algorithm) to rank noise sources in the order of their identified transfer paths.
The NVH package aims to provide a quieter and more comfortable driving environment for diesel vehicles. The new acoustic package in Hyundai i40 utilizes materials such as air permeable carpet, sound absorbing layers for engine-room encapsulation, and textile wheel-arch liners to absorb noise sources from engine, road, and muffler, providing a 20% improvement in interior noise levels (on Articulation Index), and a 3dB reduction of outside engine noise when idling.

High-tech features
By offering an extensive standard specification with numerous high-tech features, usually available only as options in competitors' models, the high level of equipment in the Hyundai i40 promises to be one of its key attractions to potential buyers.
High-tech features include smart-parking assist and lane-keeping assist systems, as well as connectivity items like Bluetooth® with voice recognition and full map navigation with rear view camera. In terms of comfort and convenience, the i40 will be available with an electric parking brake, front air ventilation seats, heated and reclining rear seats, as well as new features for the segment like auto-defog system, and a heated steering wheel.
Advanced lighting innovations, such as standard day-time running lights with Xenon headlamps or an LCD supervision instrument cluster, will further strengthen the Hyundai i40's position as the lead model in Hyundai's line-up and the European D-segment.

Safety
The Hyundai i40 uses the latest active and passive safety technologies to ensure maximum protection for its occupants. Active safety features, fitted as standard in several countries, include ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS (anti-lock braking system), Hill Start Assist Control (to prevent roll-back when starting on an incline), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), Brake Assist System and Emergency Stop Signal.
In terms of passive safety, every Hyundai i40 on the road in Europe will be fitted with up to nine airbags - front, side and curtain, with driver knee airbag available as standard on all models. Hyundai anticipates the i40 to continue the company's excellent safety record and attain the maximum 5-star result under Euro NCAP's impact 

assessment.
Senior Vice President Rushforth added, "The i40 perfectly combines the four elements that have become core Hyundai values: practicality, performance, efficiency, and styling. Our designers and engineers have produced a car that encapsulates what European motorists look for in a D-segment vehicle.

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest car manufacturer, has staged the world premiere of the all-new Santa Fe at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, held at the New York Jacob Javits Convention Center.
In its latest form, the popular D-segment SUV is re-styled inside and out, fitted with enhanced features and new technology, and powered by re-tuned engines with improved efficiency - ensuring that it will offer European buyers a visually-appealing, sophisticated lifestyle vehicle when it goes on sale in late summer.
Hyundai is keeping the name, Santa Fe, continuing the heritage of the car manufacturer's well-established SUV model as it enters its third generation. The Hyundai Santa Fe has achieved worldwide cumulative sales of almost 2,56 million units, and more than 350.000 in Europe, since its 2000 debut.
Hyundai expects this new-generation model to continue the company's strong performance in the SUV market, and to capture more than 5% share of its market segment in Europe during its first full year on sale in 2013.
Influenced by Hyundai's form language, Fluidic Sculpture, the third-generation Hyundai Santa Fe adopts its own design concept called 'Storm Edge', which captures the strong and dynamic images created by nature during the formation of a storm.
Featuring sophisticated and refined lines, which are in harmony with its bold and voluminous surfaces, New Generation Santa Fe presents a more masculine, more aggressive and more characterful SUV appearance than its predecessor.

Three powertrain options will be available to European buyers, including a new, super-efficient, Euro 6 compliant 2,0-litre 'R' VGT diesel engine. Producing 150ps, this powerplant emits just 155g/km of CO2. The 2,2-litre diesel unit has been tuned for greater efficiency, making it one of the cleanest offerings in the segment with CO2 emissions of only 145 g/km.
To ensure the newcomer is best suited to the tastes of European drivers, extensive development work has been completed for the European-specification model. This includes modifications to the steering, suspension and brakes, as well as changes to the car's set-up to aid to high-speed stability and towing ability.


Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, Allan Rushforth, commented, "The original Santa Fe has maintained strong sales year-on-year across Europe, thanks to its combination of quality, practicality and value. Now, New Generation Santa Fe retains the earlier model's key strengths - practicality, roominess and dependability - while also offering consumers much more.
"With its fresh exterior styling, more efficient engines, greater comfort and improved quality, New Generation Santa Fe is a truly attractive proposition that will build on the successes of the previous model by broadening its emotional appeal."
The company expects the New Generation Hyundai Santa Fe to appeal to new consumers from a wider demographic range - including some owners of premium-brand SUVs.

STYLING & DESIGN

With its modern, urban style, the New Generation Santa Fe looks strong, dynamic and refined, with the vehicle's body shape making a clear promise that this vehicle is safe and practical, but also sophisticated.
The new model's designers drew inspiration from the shapes created by nature during the formation of a storm - a creative approach referred to as 'Storm Edge'. Evidence of the significance of Santa Fe to Hyundai's product portfolio, it is the first model to have its own interpretation of the Fluidic Sculpture design language which has modernised the appearance of the Hyundai range in recent years.
In line with the full Hyundai product range, the latest Hyundai Santa Fe features the hexagonal-shaped grille, finished on Santa Fe in sophisticated dark chrome. Large, tear-drop headlights above the bumper are matched in shape by fog lights below. The deep, two-tone underbody offers generous ground clearance, and the silver underbody panel visible at the front smoothes the vehicle's aerodynamics and provides reassuring under-floor protection.
Longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, with the same 2700 mm wheelbase, the New Generation Santa Fe has a stronger presence. The conventional two-box SUV architecture is spaciously accommodating but, more than that, the new body shape also suggests great strength, with an imposing front-end and muscular upper flanks. The vehicle's profile is complemented by the dark chrome finish of the alloy wheels - now offered as factory equipment up to 19-inch in diameter, for the first time on a Hyundai SUV. The deep doors cover the side sills, ensuring the sills stay clean and that dirt is not transferred to occupants' clothes on entry or exit.
A dynamic stance is achieved by the lowered roofline, swept-back windshield, upswept lower edges to the rear side windows, and rakish rear windshield angle.
A sharp crease in the new Hyundai Santa Fe's side panels sweeps along the car from the front wheel arches to the trunk, setting the level of the front and rear door handles and sharply defining the upper edge of the wrap-around tail-lamps. Above the lamps, the rear windshield is set beneath a small roof-level spoiler, further enhancing the dynamic stance of the new Santa Fe. Twin tailpipes and a hexagonal mesh set into the lower sections of the front and rear bumpers, add a sporty finishing touch.
Both the front and rear wheel arches are deep-set, so that the tyres are visible almost to their uppermost edges, the swelling of the bodywork over the wheels adding to the car's muscular sense of purpose.

COMFORT & CONVENIENCE

New Generation Hyundai Santa Fe will come with a host of intelligent features that enhance the comfort and convenience of driver and passengers, providing a stress-free experience for all occupants.
To improve the driving experience, Hyundai has fitted the third-generation Santa Fe with driver aids, such as radar-controlled, adaptive cruise control. Light- and rain-detecting lights and wipers, which turn on when the conditions require, allow the driver to concentrate fully on the road ahead.
New Generation Santa Fe will be fitted with the Smart Parking Assist System to help drivers access even the tightest of spaces.
To improve comfort, the front seats are electronically powered and the driver's seat has a memory function to adapt to different drivers' preferred positions. The second row of seats slides and folds with a one-touch control, giving passengers quick and easy access to the optional third-row seats (where fitted).
Front- and second-row legroom have been increased - by 38mm and 45mm respectively - over the last-generation car, while a long, wide, single-frame panoramic sunroof allows high levels of natural light into the cabin. Luggage space in the trunk has been increased by 37mm in depth over the previous generation model, yielding a class-best luggage capacity of 534 litres with the front five seats upright.
When reversing, the tailgate-mounted camera automatically displays a clear, convex view of the area behind the car on the 7-inch screen. The wide-angle view is low enough to enable the driver to avoid low obstacles and small pedestrians.
An optional 220 Volt power socket can provide direct power to appliances including laptops, printers and vacuum cleaners. Located in the trunk, the socket can power equipment rated up to 200 Watts without a specific invertor.
The new Hyundai Santa Fe also has intelligent design features such as puddle lamps fitted within the exterior mirrors to illuminate the ground alongside the vehicle, and privacy glass for comfort and security.

ENGINES

The New Generation Santa Fe's powertrain line-up has been developed to suit the demands of European customers, with three engines at launch covering 80% of demand in the region's D-SUV segment. Delivering a broad spread of power and torque, the three engines offer drivers performance across multiple terrains, without compromising class-leading fuel efficiency and emissions.
The powertrain line-up features one petrol and two diesel engines, with outputs between 150ps and 200ps. All of these engines combine excellent power with improved efficiency and class-leading emissions figures.
The range-topping diesel engine remains Hyundai's 2,2-litre 'R' diesel engine featuring a variable geometry turbo (VGT). This all-aluminium, powerplant generates 200ps and 431Nm of torque, and Hyundai's engineers have reduced the CO2 emissions to 145 g/km - among the lowest in the segment.
With this powerful engine, the new Santa Fe delivers strong performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 9,4 seconds (manual transmission, 2WD).
Hyundai will also offer a smaller, 2,0-litre 'R' diesel engine with VGT which completes the diesel line-up. Developing 150ps and delivering 382Nm of torque, this refined powerplant emits just 155g/km of CO2 emissions when applied to the Hyundai Santa Fe.
Thanks to the variable geometry turbocharger fitted to both diesel engines, New Generation Santa Fe offers 100% of torque from low revs - just 2.000 rpm - which makes the car well suited to both off-road terrains and dynamic on-road driving.
A 'Theta II' 2,4-litre GDI engine will offer European customers a petrol alternative. Its maximum power (193ps) and modest CO2 emissions of 197 g/km again set the New Generation Hyundai Santa Fe apart as a segment leader.

TRANSMISSIONS

New Generation Santa Fe is available with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions, which have been tuned to suit the power delivery of the three-strong engine line-up.
The 'Theta II' 2,4-litre GDI petrol and 2,2-litre 'R' VGT diesel engine are available with either the manual or automatic transmission. The 2,0-litre 'R' VGT engine is fitted with the six-speed manual as standard.
The six-speed transmissions feature high top-gear ratios and were chosen to reduce fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions when cruising at speed, while also enabling drivers to fully exploit the available performance on road or over rougher terrain.
The automatic transmission features two operating modes - fully automatic or 'Sport'. For city driving, fully automatic mode is ideal, while 'Sport' mode allows for clutch-less manual sequential gear changes for greater driver involvement. Although this transmission is a regular 'torque converter' automatic, it incorporates a unique 'flat' torque converter and an innovative layout makes it the most compact six-speed unit currently available anywhere in the world - weighing 12 kilos less and can boost fuel economy by up to 12%, compared to a conventional automatic.
When the 2WD 2,2-litre 'R' VGT diesel engine is mated to the six-speed manual transmission, it emits just 145 g/km of CO2.

RUNNING GEAR

The New Generation Hyundai Santa Fe offers impressive road holding, as well as genuine comfort on-road and off-road, providing a car-like ride in normal driving conditions but switching automatically to four-wheel-drive whenever it is needed.
Hyundai's FLEX STEER system is fitted to an SUV for the first time, providing three different settings for the steering to match customer preference and driving requirement. The selected mode - normal, sport and comfort - is displayed on the 4,2-inch LCD screen integrated into the instrument cluster.
The new Santa Fe's suspension has been precisely calibrated to provide a well damped ride and reassuring responsiveness to driver inputs. The MacPherson strut front suspension uses reverse L-shaped lower arms for accurate camber control and steering sensitivity. The front subframe mounting bushes are calibrated to reduce unwanted vibrations, while preserving a confidence-inspiring connection with the road surface.
Multi-link suspension is employed at the rear, with the trailing arm connected to a chassis cross-member to ensure optimum ride refinement without intruding on the trunk space. Self-leveling rear suspension is fitted as standard, preserving ride refinement and balanced handling even when carrying a full complement of passengers or a heavy cargo load.
All-wheel-drive is delivered by an on-demand system which overrides the usual front-wheel-drive only when truly necessary. When sensors detect a loss of grip at the front wheels, power is automatically redistributed between the front and rear axles. The default power distribution is 100% to the front wheels, with automatic and continuous variation when slippery conditions are encountered up to 50% front / 50% rear.
For especially slippery conditions, such as muddy off-roading or driving on snow or ice, four-wheel-drive can be selected with the push of the 'lock' button, delivering a 50/50 power split at speeds up to 40kph.
Supplementing the high levels of traction and grip, New Generation Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with ABS (anti-lock braking), ESP (electronic stability programme), VSM (vehicle stability management), DBC (downhill brake control), plus hill-holding and HAC (hill-assist control).
Maximum towing capacity (for a fully laden vehicle) with a braked trailer is 2500 kg (manual transmission).

REFINEMENT

In creating the New Generation Santa Fe, Hyundai has retained the car's SUV heritage, but has also improved its on-road abilities.
A front subframe, which supports the engine, transmission and suspension, is mounted using specially designed bushes to minimise unwanted noise and vibrations reaching the cabin, while allowing the steering to provide excellent feedback to the driver in all conditions.
The all-new bodyshell of the third-generation Santa Fe uses the same technologies that were incorporated into the i40, which won the Euro Car Body award in 2011. A complex mixture of lightweight, high-strength steel and aluminium components increases bending strength and torsional rigidity compared to the previous model. The steel is sourced from the company's own plant - Hyundai Steel -in Korea.
Hyundai has optimised the powertrains in the third-generation Hyundai Santa Fe to be as refined as possible, using lighter materials, damped engine mounts and increased levels of sound insulation to create a quiet, cosseting interior.
These measures combine to reduce the NVH compared to the previous generation vehicle, making it a comfortable environment in which to travel - on or off road.

SAFETY

In line with the rest of Hyundai's European vehicle range, the New Generation Santa Fe will feature high-tech active and passive safety features to ensure exceptional occupant safety and improved protection for pedestrians.
Active safety systems give Santa Fe drivers the best chance of avoiding an accident. These include ABS (anti-lock braking system), ESP (electronic stability programme), VSM (vehicle stability management), DBC (downhill brake control) and a hill-holder system.
A lane-departure warning system alerts the driver should the car drift into the adjacent lane without the side indicator being activated. An audible chime is sounded in the cabin, to draw attention to the situation.
An automatic cruise control system uses radar to monitor traffic ahead and ensure that Santa Fe will not get too close to the car in front. This increases convenience for the driver and also reduces the chance of a collision.
Good driver visibility is a key factor for safety, and the New Generation Hyundai Santa Fe has several features that enhance day and night time vision. HID Xenon headlights offer high-intensity, far-reaching illumination of the road ahead, giving the driver the best possible vision. To further aid vision and safety, the headlights switch on automatically if conditions require them, and daytime running lights are fitted as standard.
In terms of passive safety, the New Generation Santa Fe is built using a lightweight, high-tensile steel and aluminium structure which provides excellent bodyshell rigidity and strength, protecting occupants in the event of a collision.
New Generation Santa Fe is fitted with seven airbags as standard, including driver, passenger, side, curtain and driver's knee units, providing exceptional levels of safety to buyers across the range.
With pedestrians in mind, Hyundai has equipped the new model with an active hood - the first such application in a Hyundai, and an important contributor to greater pedestrian safety in the event of a collision. Upon impact, the hood rises to reduce the force of the collision and, thus, reduce the risk of injury.
These features ensure new Hyundai Santa Fe has outstanding levels of safety, and reinforce Hyundai's commitment to providing its customers with class-leading cars in this crucial area. It is expected that, in line with recent Hyundai models, the New Generation Santa Fe will attain a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating - even meeting the demands of the new, more rigorous 2012 test procedure.
